So we fly into Brisbane and pick up our hire car for the next week...

and off we set to mermaid waters to stay at Amanda's Nan and Grandad's. They are honestly the cutest grandparents i have met and we have our own rooms in their lovely bungalow :)
Amanda, Nan and Pa...

First night we are a little tired from the flight and Amanda wants to spend some time with her family - so the grandparents teach us how to drink Vodka and play cards!! Grandpa's excuse for pouring half a glass of vodka with a splash of coke is that he has poor eye sight!! lol

Our first day at the gold coast i decide that the girls really need to experience byron bay.... so we took a road trip down the coast...

DSCN3606.jpg

and a walk to the lighthouse
DSCN3607.jpgDSCN3608.jpg

That night we went into surfers paradise for my first girly night out in ages... and what a night.... (slightly different to the bar crawl Terry and i experienced)

First Aveune Q
Our first 2 bottles were civilised...

And then some 'millionaire' treated us to a few more bottles - the night became a little more messy!!
DSC03153.jpgDSC03150.jpgDSC03149.jpg

From the bar we went on to a night club called SinCity where we seemed to be quite popular with the men - i cant give away too much but i think at the end of the night the score was amanda (3), Lisa M (2) and Lisa F (1)!!! if you know what i mean!!!

The next day.... afternoon, we didnt arise early enough for the 2pm surf lessons so we headed to the beach nursing our hang overs!! but hair of the dog we went for dinner and back out that night to a few bars with live music and then Melba's Club...
DSC03163.jpg 90_DSC03160.jpg

Lisa F found what me and Amanda would look like in 20 years time.... desturbing..
DSC03159.jpg

The next day before leaving for rainbow beach we went for lunch with Amanda's Nan. Pa, uncle and Auntie... the surf club at broadbeach...

Then we jumped in the car and headed up to the sunshine coast for our trip to fraser island :)

So after travelling just the 2 of us for over 6 months - it was time for some girly time!!!
The girls (Amanda, Lisa and Lisa) arrived on the 29th Jan and we were all going to stay at Amanda's Aunt and Uncles in Wahroogna for a few days befroe ditching Terry and having some girly time!!

The boys (Danny and Zac) gave us a lift from Port Macquarie to Wahroogna. Amandas Aunt and Uncles place is huge and we bascially had the top floor of the house. The house also had a bar that opened at 12noon and a snooker table (to keep Terry busy).

First day in Sydney we (the girls, Terry and I) went into Syndey, strolled around the habour, opera house and Darling Habour....

DSCN3514.jpgDSCN3510.jpgDSCN3512.jpg

At the opera house there were rehearsals for the new years eve events - all stages and lights and a robbie williams tribute act!!

New Years Eve
Mrs Macquaries Chair and Fireworks.
So in order to get a good spot and even get in to the place we get their fro 8am (get up at 6am).
DSCN3518.jpg

The site is no BYO alcohol, but we manage to sneak in some vodka in a loaf of bread and burried in a large pasta dish!!

After 3 hours of queuing we manage to get in and find a spot. Danny and Zac are also in and we met to spend the day chilling in the sun and await the fireworks....DSCN3521.jpgDSCN3536.jpg

I manage to find Charlotte - a friend from gymnasts at home and we take a token photograph so that everyone back home knows that we have found each other!!
DSCN3527.jpg

We had an amazing view of the bridge and opera house...
DSCN3523.jpgDSCN3538.jpg

We waited and waited until finally the show began... first of all plane displays
DSCN3533.jpg

the 9pm fireworks and finally the midnight fireworks... HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

DSCN3547.jpgDSCN3552.jpg

Next day we headed to Manly Beach..
Of course we took the boys with us.... so they didnt miss out!!!

The ferry the Manly was beautiful..

2nd July Hunters Valley
We booked a coach tour to Hunters valley for a nice day out to the wineries...
Apparently Lisa M gets travel sick so has to sit up front with the rather HOT bus driver!!!!! any excuse!!!

We get driven to some lovely wineries.... and obviously treated ourselves to a few bottles!!
DSCN3586.jpgDSCN3587.jpgDSCN3588.jpgDSCN3590.jpgDSCN3593.jpgDSCN3595.jpgDSCN3597.jpgDSCN3600.jpgDSCN3602.jpg90_DSCN3603.jpg

So next day me and the girls started our adventure by flying to Brisbane for some fun in the sun at the Gold Coast..
Whilst Terry went with the boys, Danny and Zac for their own adventure in Melbourne... i cant comment what happended there - apparently what happens in Melbourne stays in Melbourne!!!!! All i can say is 2 can play that game!!! Bring on the girls holiday......

With Danny and Zac!!!

So we arrive in Port Macquarie and settle into our new hostel. Its packed, fully booked in an understatment, we have people sleeping in the livigroom and on the floor of our room!!!
DSCN3468.jpg

We head out to get some food and a booze for the evening ahead, and as we past the front door and balcony i double take - yes its Danny and Zac, the funny talking farmer guys we met in Surfers.

That night we had a few beers with Danny and Zac
DSCN3473.jpg

and I slated their Intinery down the east coast - they had practically just missed out all the good places cause the first hostel they came across was full so kept driving...

Next day, it was down to me to show them how an Intinery should look....
We hired bikes and set off to cycle around the number of beaches, the rainforest board walk and koala hospital...

The bikes were the worst bikes we have ever ridden, no brakes or gears, to stop you pedalled backwards... not that easy when you trying to stop whilst going downhill!!

First we get to the painted rocks..
DSCN3475.jpgDSCN3477.jpgDSCN3480.jpg

Then wandered along some of the lovely beached...
DSCN3486.jpg

Visit the koala hospital...
DSCN3490.jpgDSCN3492.jpgDSCN3499.jpg

a pic of a koala caught in a forest fire :(
DSCN3494.jpg

and an old koala with back problems :( (kyphosis and scoliosis)..
DSCN3497.jpg

in stead of walking the boadwalk.. the guys made me cycle it.. in hindsight a very good idea as we werent wearing bug spray so would have been eaten alive!!!
DSCN3505.jpgDSCN3508.jpg

lots of fruit bats..
DSCN3503.jpg

That night Terry and I cooked the boys dinner as they had been eating Mac Donalds 3 times a day since their trip - in return they would take us in their car to syndey - so we didnt have to get the 5.55am Greyhound bus! lovely!!!

Byron Bay (with Terry)

Our very weird christmas - 35degrees, beach, and shark attack!!!

sunny 35 °C
View south america on becs and terry's travel map.

So we arrive in Byron Bay for christmas eve. Our hostel Nomads known for being a party hostel - and it lived up to its name!!!

We signed up to have a shared christmas eve dinner with the hostel... was nice chance to get chatting to people and join in the festivities (as up to now not really feeling like christmas at all)....
Christmas eve...

DSCN3427.jpg

Posing - 2 very strnage christmas Gnomes!!
DSCN3419.jpg DSCN3420.jpg

Christmas day was even more strange and surreal...
35degrees, on a beach, with santa hats everywhere!!!
DSCN3429.jpgDSCN3433.jpgDSCN3438.jpg

And to really make our day - shark attack in the sea - everyone out of the water....
DSCN3432.jpg

So we kinda had a half traditional dinner, cold meats, hot meats and salad (turkey, ham, chicken and sausages)....
DSCN3442.jpgDSCN3443.jpg

After a few glasses of GOON (yum) and a sleep on the beech, a time for relaxing in the hostel jaccuzi..
DSCN3445.jpg

That evening we followd the crowd down the the beach for a party...

The weather Boxing Day was a different story, raining, grey and overcast...
However it brightened up later on so that could take an eveing stroll past the surfers, to the lighthouse and Austrailia's most eastern point...
DSCN3455.jpgDSCN3458.jpgDSCN3462.jpgDSCN3463.jpg

Christmas is completely different in Aus. Apart from the weather, the build up is very small and boxing day was just another day!! As much as i love the hot climate, I dont think you can beat a cold, snowy, English Christmas!!!

Surfers Paradise (with Terry)

Surfing and Bar Crawl

semi-overcast 24 °C
View south america on becs and terry's travel map.

After 3 days in rainy brisbane we headed to surfers paradise for the build up to christmas.
Arriving at surfers the weather not much better we went for a stroll on the beach...
DSCN3395.jpg

God knows how our quiet stroll led to us booking a bar crawl.....Having not been out much (at all) since being in Aus we got bullied into an organised bar crawl in Surfers....
After we paid our $30 each we were informed that the crawl started at 5pm....???!!
So we met up with the crawl about 7pm, had our free drinks, went to a number of bars and clubs with girls wearing corsets and their underwear and was home by 1am!!! Hard Core Party Animals!!!

Having been in bed by 1am we were up at 9am and ready for our surf lesson!!!
Unfortunately no pics of us trying to stand (and more falling off) but a few pics of proof that we gave it a go!!!
DSCN3401.jpgDSCN3405.jpg
DSCN3406.jpgDSCN3407.jpg

Surfers is not very beginner friendly - the waves so strong it took me most my time trying to fight against the waves to get my board out to waist height!!! however with some 1:1 coaching from my very ancient but lovely instructor i was able to stand up a few times!!
massive waves...
DSCN3396.jpg

On our 2nd night in surfers we met some guys in the hostel - Danny and Zac. From Norfolk and quite possibily the strongest farmer / countryside accents i have ever heard!!! they were obviously sick of each others company because they talked and talked to us for hours, with Terry and I just nodding and wondering whhich one to look at as they spoke at the same time!!! Little did we know we would bump into them again soon on our journey and become good mates.....

Next stop Byron Bay for Christmas Celebrations!!
