We arrived at Trujillo at 8am. Not having researched much into the city, we took the locals advice and visited the local archaeological sites. we knew this wasnt really going to be our cup of tea but thought we should try and take interest in the local culture....
first off a museum with lots of remains from the city of Moche (yawn yawn)..
Then a 1 hour trek around Huaca de la Luna, to see the remains of a temple built by the Moche people. the guide was extremely excited as they only recently discovered this new temple...
After lunch to Terry's delight we visited 2 more sites: the ruins of Chan Chan and the Rainbow temple...
rainbow temple...
Then we went to find the bus ticket office to book our next bus heading south towards Lima.
day 2
Knowing that our bus wasn't until 10pm that night we had quite a bit of time to kill around a city that wasn't too big and didn't have too much to offer. So the plan was stay in the room as long as poss well until 2pm to be exact. Then we roamed the streets of Trujillo like homeless people. and and found the main square to rest.....
Restaurants appeared be hard to come by in this city and very strange... sandwich bars shut at lunchtime, restaurants had no menus so you had to guess what they served, and terry was disgusted by the microwaved burgers (he has now ordered 3 and is still surprised when they come out in a bag)!! In one place we even ordered different dishes - which came out exactly the same.
bearing this is mind terry wanted to find somewhere recommended in the lonely planet guide... a chinese with booths and large portions. we didnt realise how large the portions would be or that the booths meant you were put in a room and the curtain shut like you were being held for questioning!!
our 10 hour bus ride was not as pleasant as the time before - the seats were broken, as was the toilet and the whole coach smelt of stale urine!
when we arrived at Lima we were glad we didnt book to stay overnight.....
so we hopped straight on the next bus to ICA.... the journey was just sandy dunes....
and from Ica took a taxi to at the lovely resort of Huacachina.
