Huacachina... simply one of the most amazing places i have ever been.

A beautiful lagoon, completely surrounded by miles and miles of enourmous sand dunes. Shops, hostels and restuarants surrounding the lagoon so a beautiful view from every one.
Huacachina itself is a tiny, remote place. Only one road in and out and only 200 people living here.

We arrive at our hostel, which Terry described as a load of garden sheds.

the hostel has a pool, which in our 3 days i didnt see anyone use.

There are hammocks and lots of seating to relax in after a hard day of sand boarding.

The sand dunes are not provide a beautiful landscape, but also create opportunities for sand buggying and sand boarding.

first up we went for a ride in the sand buggy.....

which was like being on a rollar coaster without rails......

During the sand buggying we had a taster of boarding - which was so much fun that we hired boards ourselves the next day...

We took a bus about an hour from Huacachina to a place called Paracas where we got a boat to the Ballestas Islands. We have never seen so many birds (boobies) and this reflected in the smell. Terry called it the islands of bird poo!

As well as boobies, we saw sea lions

and returned to Huacachina.

our last night we took full advantage of happy hour with an american couple that we met in cotopaxi.

With sore heads we got on a 16 hour over night bus to Cusco.
