We didnt get up to much in San Pedro de Atacama as most of the surrounding scenery we had already seen in the salt flats.
However San Pedro was a nice little town at the border of Chile, we spent 3 days here chilling out and recovering from the cold.
Our hostel had sun beds and hammocks good for sunbathing and star gazing at night!
Terry spent 3 days sunbathing in attempt to top up his tan and catch mine up - failed miserably - i am still browner by far!
The small town...
We booked a Stargazing tour as this is suppose to be the best place for looking at the stars. The tour started at 9pm where a bus picked us up and took us to the star gazing centre in the middle of the desert. It was soooooo cold!
There were 10 different telescopes and our guide talked us through what we could see through each one. Despite neither Terry or I knowing anything about the galaxy or planets it was actually quite amazing!!
We could see the milky way without the telescopes clear as day, as well as Saturn and Mars. Our guide also pointed out where each of the star signs were in the sky - though some you really needed to use your imagination!! Through the telescopes we saw burnt out stars, bright stars, the rings of saturn, stars in the formation of a butterfly and other things that perhaps only astronomers would have been excited about!
Through the telescope...
Saturn..
After freezing our buts off for 2 hours we were rewarded with a hot chocolate before being driven back the the hostel!
